下次合之，然此文中以喻合喻，舉彼舊醫妄說乳藥合虫食木。初言「舊醫亦爾，不別諸病悉與乳藥」，合虫食木；「如彼虫」下舉喻以帖，「是先舊」下，合虫不解。「是先舊醫」，合是虫也；「不解乳藥好之與善」，合不知字；「不解乳藥醜之與惡」，合不知非字。好醜善惡備如上辯。智人見等略而不合。

Next is applying it: in this passage, parables are applied to parables, citing that former physician's falsely declaring the milk medicine to apply to the worm eating wood. The opening words, 'The former physician was also like this: not distinguishing the various illnesses, he gave milk medicine to all,' apply to the worm eating wood; from 'just like that worm' downward cites the parable to attach to it; from 'this former' downward applies to the worm not understanding. 'This former physician' applies to this worm; 'not understanding whether milk medicine is fine and wholesome' applies to not knowing letters; 'not understanding whether milk medicine is inferior and bad' applies to not knowing what is not a letter. 'Fine,' 'inferior,' 'wholesome,' and 'bad' are fully distinguished as above. The wise person seeing it and so forth are omitted and not applied.
