初中三句：一明比丘說佛祕藏，言一切生皆有佛性，以有性故，斷煩惱結即得菩提。二「若王」下假問顯法，先問、後答。問中，「比丘！汝作佛不」是其一問，「有佛性不」是第二問。答中，「我今定有佛性」先答後問，「成以不成，未能審之」答其初問。三「王言」下，王聞領解，比丘印可。此初段竟。

Within the first, there are three phrases: first, clarifying that the monk speaks of the Buddha's secret treasury, saying that all living beings have the buddha-nature, and because they have the nature, by severing the bonds of afflictions they immediately attain bodhi. Second, from "If the king" and below poses a hypothetical question to reveal the Dharma, with a question first and an answer later. In the question: "Monk! Do you become a buddha or not?" is the first question; "Do you have the buddha-nature or not?" is the second question. In the answer: "I definitely have the buddha-nature now" answers the latter question first; "Whether I will achieve it or not, I cannot yet be certain" answers the first question. Third, from "The king said" and below, the king hears and grasps the understanding, and the monk confirms it. This concludes the first section.
