First, clarifying the four truths is precisely answering the question above, "How does one speak of the truths with a joyful, subdued mind?"; now, this differentiation clarifies that the uncreated four truths express the Buddha's intention in converting [beings], which is called speaking with a joyful mind. What is the purpose of differentiating the truths? Truths are the marks of dharmas, while the nature of the tathāgatagarbha is their true reality; wishing to prompt sentient beings to trace the marks to proceed toward the real, it is therefore necessary to speak of the truths. The meaning of the four truths is explained in a separate chapter. Therein, the Tathāgata first extensively differentiates the truths, and afterward Kāśyapa grasps and understands them. In the first part, it first treats them individually and afterward summarizes them. In treating them individually, suffering, accumulation, cessation, and path make four.
