Within the first section, the “king” is a metaphor for the Tathāgata; the trichiliocosm, the place transformed by the Buddha, is called the “king's household”; ordinary sentient beings whose deluded nature has grown strong are called “wrestlers”; having the buddha-nature in the mind is why it says “having a diamond jewel between his eyebrows”; bad spiritual associates are called the “other wrestlers”; due to nearing bad friends, the afflictions of both manifest together, hence it says “contending in strength”; mutually contending over good dharmas is called “wrestling”; the mind confronting conditions for delusion is called “butting heads”; the nature in the mind being veiled by characteristics is called “the jewel on his forehead thereupon sank into his flesh”; being veiled and unaware is called “not knowing for himself where the jewel was”; due to the nature being veiled, undergoing much suffering is called “there was a sore on the spot.”
