The above concludes the application of the analogies. "Because of these causes and conditions, no one can kill [it]" concludes the answer to the preceding question, establishing that it cannot be severed. Among the preceding six passages, this concludes the answer to the above particularly with respect to the fourth passage. Above, Kāśyapa grasped at characteristics to scrutinize the real, challenging that there is no buddha-nature; the Tathāgata distinguished the real from characteristics to answer. From here down, Kāśyapa grasps at the real to scrutinize characteristics, challenging that there is no taking of life; the Tathāgata distinguishes characteristics from the real to answer. What is the intention of the challenge? If the nature cannot be killed, there should be no unwholesome [karma]. Below, the Buddha answers, clarifying that because characteristics differ from the nature, taking of life exists; because there is killing, unwholesome karma exists.
