Within the text, first there are specific [points], and afterwards a general conclusion and praise. Among the specific points, the sūtra text has ten "furthermores": the first eight "furthermores" treat the Dharma as the skilled physician, and the last two explain that the persons—the buddhas and bodhisattvas—are the skilled physicians; the intention is to elucidate the Dharma, but the Dharma relies on persons to be propagated, which is why persons are spoken of. Within the Dharma there are four pairs. The first two "furthermores" contrast the great with the small: adducing the small to reveal the great and distinguishing how the great surpasses the small. The next two "furthermores" contrast understanding with practice based on what is generated: the former generates understanding, while the latter initiates practice. The next two "furthermores" contrast principle with teaching: the former "furthermore" shows that teaching can assist principle, while the latter "furthermore" shows that principle can assist teaching. The final two "furthermores" contrast the difficulty and ease of those gathered and transformed: the former "furthermore" shows that good persons who are easy to transform are gathered and benefited by the sūtra, while the latter "furthermore" shows that evil persons who are difficult to transform are forcefully benefited by the sūtra.
