第七純陀問彼闡提能生悔者施得果不，下佛先呵，後為辯釋。釋中有二：一明闡提斷善根故不可得生，不可生故不能自悔、敬養三寶；二「以是義」下明供其人不得大果。

Seventh, Cunda asks whether, if that icchantika can generate repentance, giving to them yields a fruit or not; below, the Buddha first scolds, and thereafter discriminates and explains it. In the explanation there are two parts: first, explaining that because the icchantika has severed the roots of goodness, they cannot be made to grow, and because they cannot grow, they are unable to repent themselves or revere and make offerings to the Three Jewels; second, from "By this meaning..." below, explaining that making offerings to such a person does not yield a great fruit.
