初中應先廣辨胡章，然後釋文。胡章之中有十二章，其悉曇章以為第一，於中合有五十二字，悉曇兩字是題章名，餘是章體。所謂噁、阿、億、伊、郁、憂、咽、野、烏、炮、菴、阿、迦、佉、伽、𠷐、俄、吒、咃、荼、袒、拏、多、他、陀、彈、那、遮、車、闍、饍、若、波、頗、婆、滼、摩、蛇、囉、羅、啝、奢、沙、娑、呵、荼、魯、流、盧、樓，魯流盧樓外國正音名為億力、伊離、栗、離。此是初章。問曰：前後兩荼何別？前長後短。

In the first part, one should first broadly explain the Indic charts, and then explain the text. Among the Indic charts there are twelve charts, of which the Siddhaṃ chart is the first, containing a total of fifty-two letters. The two characters *xīdān* (siddhaṃ) are the title of the chart; the rest are the body of the chart.
