In the [section on] separation from what is loved, there is first an interrogation and next an explanation, but briefly there is no concluding text. In the explanation, it is first brief, and from 'Now I shall' downward it is detailed. In the brief part there are three clauses: First, it generally clarifies that separation from what is loved is the root of all suffering. Second, from 'As it is said' downward, it specifically clarifies that the mind of love is the root of all suffering. First, it cites verses: 'Because of love, love arises; because of love, fear arises' directly clarifies the root of suffering; 'If one is free from love, what love? What fear?' clarifies the root of suffering by way of negation; and from 'With love as cause and condition' downward, it reveals it once more. Third, from 'Separation from what is loved refers to the end of life' downward, it specifically clarifies that separation is the root of all suffering, first explaining separation and then clarifying the arising of suffering. In the detailed part, 'Now I shall explain and demonstrate it' generally marks the presentation; from 'In the past' downward directly explains its marks: first citing past events, and from 'The bodhisattva still remembers the past' downward using the past to illustrate the present.
