Within the metaphor, from the cow up to clarified butter (sarpirmaṇḍa), there are altogether six stages; although six stages are adduced, the intention rests upon the clarified butter. "From butter comes clarified butter" arises from the lower to the higher; "clarified butter is supreme" clarifies that the higher surpasses the lower. From "if someone consumes it" downward, its supreme significance is revealed: "If someone consumes it, all illnesses are eradicated" is supreme because the treatment is comprehensive; "all medicines are subsumed within it" is supreme because its virtues are complete—since within this single clarified butter all medicinal potencies are complete, it is said to subsume all.
