From "Furthermore, on account of the vessels" downward answers the second and third objections regarding the conditions above: according to those three conditions they should be spoken of as three, but because the vessels differ, they are spoken of as four. The persons who receive transformation are called "vessels"; "Furthermore, on account of the vessels they should be called four" indicates this generally. "If a vessel has benevolence, it cannot have compassion, sympathetic joy, or equanimity" reveals this specifically. Sentient beings without happiness are the vessels of benevolence; sentient beings with suffering are the vessels of compassion; sentient beings who have attained happiness are the vessels of sympathetic joy; and those of ultimate liberation are the vessels of equanimity. Where benevolence should arise toward that vessel, compassion, sympathetic joy, and equanimity cannot arise; the rest are likewise. From "for this reason" downward concludes.
