下約修慈，「於上親中與增上樂」是第一品；「於中、下親亦復平等與增上樂」即是第二及第三品；第四一品，於中人所與增上樂，文略不說；「於上怨中與少分樂、於中怨所與中品樂、於下怨所與增上樂」是第五品；「如是轉修，於上怨中與中品樂，於中、下怨等與上樂」是第六品；「轉復修習，於上、中、下等與上樂」是第七品。

Below, with reference to cultivating benevolence: "bestowing superior happiness on upper dear ones" is the first grade; "also equally bestowing superior happiness on middle and lower dear ones" is the second and third grades; the fourth single grade, bestowing superior happiness on neutral persons, is omitted in the text and not stated; "bestowing a small portion of happiness on upper adversaries, bestowing middling happiness on middling adversaries, and bestowing superior happiness on lower adversaries" is the fifth grade; "gradually cultivating in this way, bestowing middling happiness on upper adversaries, and equally bestowing superior happiness on middle and lower adversaries" is the sixth grade; "gradually cultivating further, equally bestowing superior happiness on upper, middle, and lower" is the seventh grade.
