The above allegorized the bodhisattva; below allegorizes ordinary people craving birth and receiving death. In this there are four clauses: first, the statement "The two women together further went to a poor household" allegorically explains that birth and death pursue ordinary people; because they lack the wealth of virtue, it is spoken of as a poor household; second, from "The poor person saw" downward allegorically explains that ordinary people receive both birth and death; from "Upon first seeing them his mind rejoiced, and he immediately invited them" downward is creating karma to seek them; third, from "Puṇyalakṣmī said" downward is using the noble one as a standard to rebuke the ordinary person: "I was driven away by another; for what reason do you invite us both to stay?"; fourth, from "The poor person said, 'You are mindful of me'" downward clarifies that the ordinary differs from the noble: birth following ordinary sentiment is called "you are mindful of me"; ordinary people craving birth and also receiving old age and death is why he says, "because of you, I shall also revere her"; "therefore I invite both" concludes the response to the previous rebuke. In the application, it first applies to the bodhisattva loathing both; from "Ordinary people, foolish..." downward, it applies to ordinary people receiving both.
