In the extensive explanation, first comes the question, and below the Buddha explains it for him. Within this, it first cites the faults to reveal the merits, which clarifies how the worldly differs from the supramundane, first explaining and then concluding. In the explanation, first clarifying that worldly precepts are impure reverses the first one above; it first presents the general topic. From "Why?" downward is the explanation, explaining it by four meanings: "for the sake of existence" means that ordinary beings uphold precepts for the fruit of the three existences, hence they are impure; "their nature is unfixed" means that they easily retrogress and fail; "they are not ultimate" means their essence is not refined and supreme—these three are their inferiority; "they cannot broadly benefit" displays their narrowness. From "Next is" downward is the conclusion; the remaining ones such as non-regret are clear from the text and can be understood.
