Next, he explains in terms of the person capable of transforming, within which he first determines the meaning of the three words: "What is called 'Ajāta' means 'unborn'; that which is unborn is nirvāṇa." "'Śatru' means worldly dharmas, and 'for' means unstained." By what meaning does "for" acquire the sense of unstained? If the Buddha were in the world and possessed clinging attachment of his own, that would be called stained; because he dwells in it for the sake of others, it is called unstained. Next, he applies this meaning to the Buddha: if the Buddha while in the world were defiled by the eight worldly dharmas, he would have to abandon the world and swiftly enter nirvāṇa. Because the Buddha possesses the world yet the eight worldly dharmas cannot defile him, he constantly remains in the world for incalculable kalpas without entering nirvāṇa. The eight dharmas are as explained above. From "therefore" onward concludes.
