The above was the second [section], refuting and dispelling the marks of guilt to remove the king's grasping mind. From here below, the third [section] clarifies the real nature of guilt, teaching the king to contemplate and enter it, directly eradicating the king's guilt. Within this there are three [parts]: first, the Buddha preaches the Dharma for him; second, from "At that time, King Ajātaśatru, as the Buddha preached..." downward, it clarifies that Ajātaśatru, having heard the Dharma, eradicated his guilt, rejoiced, and gave rise to the [bodhi-]mind; third, from "At that time, the World-Honoured One praised Ajātaśatru..." downward, the Tathāgata confirms and praises him. In the first, there are two [parts]: first, explaining the substance and marks of guilt; second, from "Sentient beings are called the inhalation and exhalation of breath" downward, teaching him to generate contemplation and enter it. In the former, he first raises nirvāṇa as an analogy, and afterwards analogizes it to killing.
