In the analogies, the three matters of going, arriving, and obtaining together reveal one meaning; alternatively, going and arriving analogize hearing nirvāṇa, arising and non-arising analogize and reveal buddha-nature, and obtaining and non-obtaining analogize and reveal bodhi. In the first analogy, "going" is used to analogize hearing, and "arriving" to analogize not hearing; "just as one who goes" analogizes the person who can hear; "arriving, one does not go" analogizes and reveals the first phrase: just as that worldly person who has already arrived cannot be said to go, the case illustrated is like this: the buddhas and bodhisattvas who have already attained nirvāṇa, having finished not hearing dharmas, cannot be said to hear. "Going, one does not arrive" analogizes and reveals the latter phrase: just as that worldly person while on the road going cannot be called arrived, the case illustrated is like this: one who has already attained hearing cannot further hear what is not heard.
