In the former part, it is explained in relation to four kinds of persons: First, it explains that he spoke this verse in order to transform ordinary beings, demonstrating the meaning of ordinary beings having attainment. For ordinary persons, currently having the defiled dharmas of birth-and-death is called "originally having"; currently lacking the pure dharmas of supramundane nirvāṇa is spoken of as "now lacking"; currently lacking the pure dharmas of supramundane nirvāṇa is called "originally lacking"; currently having the defiled dharmas of birth-and-death is spoken of as "now having". For ordinary beings, their originally having the dharmas of birth-and-death cannot possibly exist constantly throughout the three times, and so they will certainly eliminate and abandon them; their originally lacking pure dharmas cannot possibly be non-existent constantly throughout the three times, and so they will certainly attain them. Therefore, it is not non-attainment.
