下次答其第三句難。答意如何？明其佛性雖不可斷，其餘善根是可斷故名一闡提。文中說言「若斷已得名闡提」者，餘方便善可斷已得，未得之間名一闡提，非已得竟名一闡提。

Next, it answers the challenge of the third clause. What is the intention of the answer? It clarifies that although the buddha-nature cannot be severed, because the other roots of goodness can be severed, one is called an icchantika. In the text, stating "If one has severed and then attains, they are called an icchantika" means that other expedient goodness can be severed and then attained; during the interval before attaining it, one is called an icchantika, not that after having already attained it one is called an icchantika.
