The above section clarified how the lesser differs from the great. "Permanence, bliss, self, and purity are properly called great" reveals how the great differs from the lesser. From here below, the fourth [part] broadly explains the previous metaphors, but does not explain them exhaustively: among the previous ten metaphors, it only explains the six gates of the ocean, river, mountain, city, sentient beings, and person, while the four gates of earth, king, heaven, and road are not explained. The greatness and smallness of the king are fully revealed in the analysis of the city, so there is no need to explain them again. Within those explained, in each case it first establishes the metaphor, and afterward correlates it to reveal the dharma.
