The above clarified the subject that knows; next below, it explains the essence and marks of space. Coarsely divided, there are two; finely divided, there are six. In the coarse division of two: from the beginning up to "both the nature of sentient beings and space are without reality" briefly explains the marks of emptiness; from "Just as someone says..." onward extensively reveals the marks of emptiness. In the fine division of six, within the brief part there are three: first, an exposition in terms of dharmas clarifies emptiness; second, from "Emptiness is called non-being..." onward uses a metaphorical exposition to clarify emptiness, borrowing mundane empty space as an analogy to reveal the emptiness of principle; third, from "The nature of sentient beings..." onward brings up the shallow to serve as an analogy for the profound, using the emptiness of sentient beings as an analogy to reveal the emptiness of dharmas. The extensive text below again expands upon these three; therefore there are six divisions.
