In the eighth virtue, it first begins with a question, next explains, and finally concludes. In the explanation, eight dharmas are proclaimed as its essence; now they are first listed and distinguished, and explained broadly below. Among the eight, the first seven are expedients that gather practice, and the last one is the realization. Among the first seven, the first two are practices of leaving conditioned phenomena, the next three are practices of seeking bodhi, and the last two are practices of gathering sentient beings. Among the first two, 'eliminating five matters' means severing the five aggregates and leaving the fruit of birth and death. 'Departing from five matters' means staying far away from the five views and extinguishing the cause of birth and death. Furthermore, eliminating five matters leaves the dharmas of birth and death; departing from five matters eliminates dharmas that obstruct the path. Furthermore, eliminating five matters leaves the loci that give rise to outflows; departing from five matters directly eliminates the substance of outflows. Among the next three, 'completing six and cultivating five' are practices that tend toward bodhi, meaning completing the six mindfulnesses, cultivating the five concentrations, guarding one matter, and gathering the vow for bodhi. Among the last two, 'drawing near to four matters' transforms the minds of sentient beings, referring to the four immeasurables; 'faithfully complying with the one reality' is the dharma for delivering sentient beings, referring to the path of the one vehicle. These are the seven expedients. The one below is the accomplished virtue: severing the innate binding afflictions of the five dwellings, the true mind emerges from hindrances, which is called 'liberation of mind'; being free from ignorance regarding phenomena, sovereign in conventional wisdom, is called 'liberation through wisdom'.
