Below, this is explained extensively. "For what reason is what has not reached, not reaching?" cites the question of the first approach. "Now, that which does not reach is the great nirvāṇa" explains the second "not reaching"; "ordinary beings have not [reached]" and so forth explains the initial "have not reached." "Ordinary beings have not reached" introduces it generally; "because there is greed" and so forth reveals it specifically: having greed and so forth, because of defilements they do not reach [it]; from "bodily karma" onward, because of bad karma they do not reach [it]; from "for this [reason]" downward concludes it. "For what reason is what has not reached, reaching?" cites the question of the second [approach]. The words "that which does not reach is called the great nirvāṇa" explain the initial "not reaching"; from "in what sense reaching?" downward explains the subsequent "reaching": "eternally severing greed" and so forth means reaching because there are no defilements; "eternally severing bodily [karma]" and so forth means reaching because of being free from karma; from "for this [reason]" downward concludes it. From "srotāpanna" downward distinguishes this according to persons. "For what reason is it called reaching, not reaching?" cites the question of the third [approach]. "Reaching is called the twenty-five states of existence" explains the initial sense of reaching; next it reveals it specifically; from "this is called" downward concludes it. From "śrāvaka" downward explains the subsequent "not reaching": therein it first explains that through one's own practice one does not reach [them]; from "in order to transform and deliver" downward explains that when all bodhisattvas descend to transform sentient beings, manifesting themselves within [the states of existence], this is also termed "reaching." "For what reason is it called reaching, reaching?" cites the question of the fourth [approach]. "Reaching is precisely the twenty-five states of existence" explains the initial sense of reaching; from "all ordinary [beings]" downward explains the subsequent "reaching."
