8.100

下吼勢中，要分為二：一益正眾、二摧邪人。細分有四：「水性潛沒」合正學中出家之眾深入正法、「陸行藏伏」合正學中在家之眾安住正法、「飛者墮落」合邪學中諸魔顛墮、「香象失糞」合邪學中外道退散。

Below, within the power of the roar, it is essentially divided into two: first, benefiting the correct assembly; second, crushing heterodox persons. In a detailed division there are four: "those living in water submerging" corresponds, among those of correct learning, to the monastic assembly penetrating deeply into the correct Dharma; "those traveling on land hiding and concealing themselves" corresponds, among those of correct learning, to the lay assembly securely abiding in the correct Dharma; "those flying falling down" corresponds, among those of heterodox learning, to the various māras tumbling and falling; "the fragrant elephant losing its dung" corresponds, among those of heterodox learning, to the non-Buddhists retreating and scattering.
