「師子白」下是第四段師子正問，問中八句，前四問其所證之性，後四問其能證之行。就前四中，「云何為性」問其性體，云何許法是其佛性？「以何義故名佛性」者問性名義，「何故復名常樂我淨」問性體義。「何故一切眾生不見」就人徵責，此言即是問性有無，若實有性，一切眾生何故不見？眾生不見，當應無性。

From "Siṃha addressed..." onward is the fourth section: Siṃha's actual questions. Within the questions there are eight phrases: the first four ask about the nature that is realized, and the latter four ask about the practices that are able to realize [it]. Within the first four: "What is the nature?" asks about the essence of the nature: what kind of dharma is this buddha-nature? "For what reason is it named buddha-nature?" asks about the meaning of the name of the nature. "Why is it also named permanent, joyful, self, and pure?" asks about the meaning of the essence of the nature. "Why do all sentient beings not see it?" investigates and reproaches in terms of persons; this statement is simply asking about the existence or non-existence of the nature: if there really is a nature, why do all sentient beings not see it? If sentient beings do not see it, there should be no nature.
