From here below is the fourth section, on teaching the self as the nature. Therein, it first teaches the self as the buddha-nature; from "Lion's Roar said" downward, it explains that sentient beings possess it but do not see it. In the first part there are four points: first, it explains the reason why the Tathāgata spoke of the self; second, from "Nor do I say that all is completely without self" downward, it directly explains the teaching of the self; third, from "When the brahmacārin heard..." downward, the benefit of teaching the self; fourth, from "This buddha-nature is truly not the self" downward, the Tathāgata definitively distinguishes the meaning of self and non-self. In the first point there are four: first, the Buddha initiates transformation, bathing in the Nairañjanā, with those on water and land watching together; second, the non-Buddhists see the Buddha receiving bliss and resent that the Buddha teaches annihilation; third, the Tathāgata asks in return about the reason for teaching annihilation; fourth, the non-Buddhists cite what the Buddha had taught in reply, challenging the Tathāgata on the meaning of non-self. The text can all be understood.
