Below, the Buddha answers him: first, in response to the initial question, he distinguishes the characteristics of seeing them; from 'The body of the Tathāgata is of two kinds...' below, he resolves the subsequent objection, clarifying that they can be seen. In the former part, he first explains the characteristics of seeing the Tathāgata: 'The Buddha's bodies are of two kinds' briefly designates what is seen; 'permanent and impermanent' lists their two names; below, he demonstrates the characteristics of seeing them with reference to these two. The 'impermanent one is the body of manifestation and transformation expediously manifested to cross over sentient beings; it can be witnessed with the eye, and is called visual seeing. The permanent one is the body of true liberation; it is called visual seeing, and is also called auditory seeing.' Hearing it at first and giving rise to faith is called auditory seeing; ultimately realizing it clearly is called visual seeing.
