〈迦葉品〉者，學行有三：一隨緣造修，向前五行、十功德是；二捨相入證，〈師子品〉是；三證實成果，亦名起用，此品論之。是義由於迦葉啟請而得宣唱，故就請人以顯章目，名〈迦葉品〉。此品之中義意唯二：一舉化闡提，彰佛德行；二舉佛德行，明能化益一闡提義。故下文中讚嘆此經名闡提杖，一闡提人因之得起。

Regarding the "Chapter on Kāśyapa": there are three kinds of learning and practice: first, cultivating in accordance with conditions, which are the previous five practices and ten virtues; second, relinquishing marks to enter realization, which is the "Chapter on Lion"; third, realizing the real to accomplish the fruit, also called giving rise to function, which is discussed in this chapter. Because this meaning was proclaimed due to Kāśyapa's inquiry, the chapter title is designated after the petitioner, and it is called the "Chapter on Kāśyapa." In this chapter there are only two essential meanings: first, citing the conversion of the icchantika to reveal the Buddha's virtuous conduct; second, citing the Buddha's virtuous conduct to explain the meaning of being able to convert and benefit an icchantika. Therefore, later in the text, it praises this sūtra, naming it the icchantika's staff, through which an icchantika is able to stand up.
