Within the broad explanation below, the text has four parts: first, adducing categories in terms of dharmas; second, from "Therefore in accord with the person and in accord with intention..." onward, applying them to reveal dharmas; third, from "To five kinds of sentient beings one should not speak five kinds of dharmas" downward, adducing categories in terms of persons; fourth, from "As you have said, the Buddha's nirvāṇa..." downward, applying it to reveal dharmas. In these four sections, the first two form a pair on the indeterminacy of the characteristics of dharmas, while the latter two form a pair on the indeterminacy according to persons. Within the first section, there are three kinds of categories: first, clarifying that the unity and diversity of dharmas are indeterminate; second, that breadth and brevity are indeterminate; third, that shallowness and depth are indeterminate. Among these three, the first approach is distinguished in one place, while the latter two approaches are adduced together in one place. Within the first category, he first opens three approaches. As for "In a single named dharma, speaking immeasurable names": the name that manifests the essence, where name and dharma are not distinct, is called 'a single named dharma'. Within this essence of the dharma, the distinct meanings are numerous; applying names according to the distinctions, one can therefore speak immeasurable names within a single named dharma. As for "Speaking immeasurable names within a single meaning": the various meanings share the same essence and mutually constitute one another, one possessing all, and all constituting one. Truly because one possesses all, when names are applied in accord with this, the names are also numerous; hence within a single meaning he speaks immeasurable names. As for "Speaking immeasurable names for immeasurable meanings": applying different names according to their distinct meanings, he can therefore speak immeasurable names for those immeasurable meanings.
