Fifth is to explain the meaning of the Buddha's body being conditioned or unconditioned. One should first clarify the controversy; the aspects of the controversy are understandable. Next, one discusses the principle; the principle is not one-sided. What does this mean? The Buddha's bodies are of two kinds: first, the body shared with the worldly realm, which arises and ceases in accordance with the world; second, the body of the equal dharma-gate, which is eternally tranquil and immovable. Since the meaning encompasses both, one must not cling to one side. In the text, it first teaches that the Buddha's body is conditioned and ordinary beings, hearing it, stirred up controversy; afterwards it teaches that it is unconditioned and ordinary beings, hearing it, stirred up controversy.
