9.58

就後九中，初戒離惡、後八修善。戒中初列，「云何」下釋，先問、次辨。辨中有二：一舉過勸捨、二辨淨教修。前舉過中偏舉婬過，以難離故。於中四番，簡麁論細，文顯可知。後辨淨中，明捨諸根唯求實義，「是名」結之。

Regarding the latter nine [practices]: the first, precepts, is abandoning evil; the latter eight are cultivating good. Within precepts, it first lists [them], and from 'how' below, it explains them, first questioning and next discriminating. Within the discrimination there are two: first, adducing faults to urge abandonment; second, discriminating purity to instruct cultivation. In the former, adducing faults, it particularly adduces the fault of sexual misconduct, because it is difficult to abandon. Within this there are four turns, sifting the coarse to discuss the subtle, and the text is clear and intelligible. In the latter, discriminating purity, it clarifies abandoning the various sense-faculties and seeking only the true meaning, concluding with 'this is called [precepts]'.
