From here below, the eighth section discerns contemplation with respect to the truths. First, the truth of suffering is contemplated, within which the eight sufferings are first extensively discerned, and then contemplation is explained accordingly. In the former, the initial word "birth" presents the mark of emergence to generally reveal the meaning of birth; below, it is individually revealed, first raised and then listed. "Initial emergence" refers to the consciousness link as the beginning of a single retribution, hence called initial; the arising of retribution is called birth. "Reaching the end" refers to name-and-form described as the end in comparison to the former. "Growth" refers to the former name-and-form growing into the six sense bases. These three are inside the womb; emerging from the womb can be known. "Categories" refers to all the newly arising moments within a single retribution from after emergence from the womb down to old age and death, all of which are called birth.
