From "At that time in the sky" onwards is the second, the father king acting as a condition; the text has four parts: first, a voice emerges in the sky; second, the king inquires in return; third, the father king speaks the truth; fourth, King Ajātaśatru grieves and reproaches himself. The first text has three parts: first, exhorting because the Buddha's Dharma is about to be extinguished. From "Great King, you now" onwards is the second, exhorting because the grave sin will certainly incur hell. From "Great King, I definitely know" onwards is the third, concluding both matters together to exhort him to go urgently. Second, the king inquires in return; third, the father king answers truthfully; fourth, King Ajātaśatru grieves and reproaches himself—all are as in the text. Question: The father king is already dead; how could a voice emerge? Answer: There are two explanations. One says that the father king attained the path, and although killed, he did not die, which is why he can exhort him; the second says that it was not his original father, but rather the various sages pretending to speak as his father.
