From "At that time, the World-Honoured One..." downward is the second [part], replying with praise. Traditionally it was said that this is praise, not a reply. Now it is explained that it is also a reply: because he challenged the Buddha with fixed characteristics, [the Buddha] clarified that things such as illusions can hardly be grasped as fixed, whereupon the doubts of the assembly were all laid to rest; this is a reply through praise. As for Liúlíguāng (Vaiḍūryaprabha): when the light came, it was not blue yet blue was seen, and not yellow yet yellow was seen; is this not hearing what is not heard? This is a reply through an auspicious sign. Afterwards, when Liúlíguāng answered the question, it simultaneously answered Déwáng's raising of questions for the sake of the assembly though he had no doubt himself. All together there are these three replies, and through the three replies the three capacities were released [from doubt]. Héxī also said: the praise is a general reply, while what follows is a specific reply.
