From “Siṃhanāda said: How is it non-retrograde?” downwards, the second [part] exhorts practice by means of those who have seen the buddhadhātu, comprising question and answer. The question is as in the text. The Buddha’s answer has three parts: first, self-testing one's mind; second, undergoing suffering for the sake of beings; third, using the six perfections to convert others. The first is one's own practice, while the latter two are converting others. First, testing oneself is still shallow practice; as for the profound, it needs no statement. Regarding the character sù (粟𢇲), people pronounce it with the sound hé, which is incorrect. Others say it has the sound lí, and others say the sound lán; upon investigation, no such character is found. From “Good sons, the bodhisattva, for the sake of destroying” downwards, the second clarifies undergoing suffering for the sake of beings. From “Furthermore, the bodhisattva” downwards, the third clarifies using the six perfections to convert others, as in the text.
