釋品為三：一辨疏密、二辨德行、三釋名。初意者，依天竺文猶屬〈壽命品〉開破今昔常無常義，於義則密、於文則疏；謝氏從人從事題純陀品，於文則密、於義則疏。今明涅槃施章，於梵漢兩文俱無所失，隨前人則施常命、隨後事則施常修（云云）。

The chapter is explained in three parts: first, distinguishing between coarse and detailed [arrangements]; second, distinguishing [Cunda's] virtuous conduct; and third, explaining the title. Regarding the first intent: according to the Indic text, [this section] still belongs to the 'Chapter on Lifespan,' revealing and refuting past and present conceptions of permanence and impermanence; in terms of doctrine it is detailed, but in terms of the text it is coarse. Master Xie, following the person and the narrative, titled it the 'Chapter on Cunda'; in terms of the text it is detailed, but in terms of doctrine it is coarse. Now, elucidating the section on the bestowing of nirvāṇa, nothing is lost in either the Sanskrit or the Chinese text: according to the preceding person, [the Buddha] bestows permanent lifespan; according to the subsequent matter, [the Buddha] bestows permanent cultivation, and so on.
