贊曰：第三、近事男眾也。梵云鄔婆索迦。鄔婆近也，迦事也，索男聲也。於男聲中以呼之，即近事男。舊云伊𮑱塞、優婆塞，優婆塞云清信男，皆訛謬也。戒德俱圓，皆堪能親近承事苾芻、大阿羅漢故。善施耆尊，稱為長者，靈光既照亦來佛所。

The eulogy states: Third is the assembly of men who attend closely. In Sanskrit, it is upāsaka. 'Upa' means 'close', 'ka' means 'serving', and 'sa' is a masculine suffix. Calling them with the masculine suffix means 'men who attend closely'. Formerly rendered as yipusai or youpose, where youpose was translated as 'pure and faithful men', which are all erroneous corruptions. Being complete in both precepts and virtue, they are all capable of approaching and serving bhikṣus and great arhats. Sudatta was revered as an elder because of his excellent giving; when the miraculous light shone, he also came to the Buddha's place.
