贊曰：此第二段八部聞名敬喜往生，即是第二中品生也。於中有二：初明敬喜發願往生、後明不願生聞名亦利益。此即初也。四眾八部先不犯戒亦不造惡，罪輕微者聞名心喜，語發恭敬身禮拜者，由因勝劣當果雖殊，天讚、罪除、不退、值佛與前無異。具三業者中上品生，唯具二業中中品生，若唯一業中下品生。

The Commentary says: This second section, where the eight classes hear the name and with reverence and joy attain rebirth, refers to the second, middle grade of rebirth. Within this there are two parts: first, explaining rebirth through reverence, joy, and making the vow; second, explaining that even if one does not vow to be born [there], hearing the name is also beneficial. This is the first. If the four assemblies and eight classes have not previously broken the precepts nor committed evil, and their transgressions are slight, when they hear the name, their minds rejoice, their speech expresses reverence, and their bodies bow down in worship. Although their future fruits will differ due to the superior or inferior nature of their causes, the heavenly praises, eradication of transgressions, non-retrogression, and meeting the Buddhas are no different from before. Those endowed with all three karmas attain the higher of the middle grade of rebirth; those endowed with only two karmas attain the middle of the middle grade of rebirth; and if endowed with only one karma, they attain the lower of the middle grade of rebirth.
