The commentary says: Third, elaborating on the light that destroys darkness. Turning to the right symbolizes that all bodhisattva practices are never apart from the light of wisdom, nor from the Dharma of great benevolence and compassion, induced by wisdom, that uproots suffering and grants joy. Great benevolence has non-hatred as its nature, and great compassion has non-hatred and non-delusion as its nature. These each have three kinds: first, having sentient beings as their object, taking provisional sentient beings as their object; second, having dharmas as their object, not seeing sentient beings but only dharmas; third, having no object, where even the characteristics of dharmas do not exist and there is only the true principle. Alternatively, having sentient beings as the object means arising with sentient beings as the object; having dharmas as the object means arising with the twelvefold canon as the object; having no object means arising with tathatā as the object, because there is no object grasped. Because Maitreya, the Benevolent Honoured One, guides the myriad beings, he proclaims the Dharma of benevolence and compassion.
