The Commentary says: From here below, they are listed specifically. As for the distinctions among these four: first, rejoicing in existence; second, understanding emptiness; third, the unobstructed nature regarding cause; fourth, the great liberation regarding fruit; liberation is itself signlessness. Or, the third refers to the four unobstructed analytical knowledges, eloquence in outward conversion; the fourth refers to all merits and wisdom, the liberation of internal virtues. Or, on the eighth ground one spontaneously attains the first two, on the ninth ground the third, and on the tenth ground the fourth. Or, they correspond in order to the four kinds of retention: first, Dharma; second, meaning; third, the ability to attain the bodhisattva's endurance of the non-arising of dharmas; fourth, the various incantations. Teaching methods are called 'existence'; the signified meaning is called 'emptiness'; the endurance of the non-arising of dharmas is called 'unobstructed nature'. Having attained this endurance, one has unobstructed comprehension regarding all dharmas; hence the various mantras are called 'great liberation'. 'Signless' means being able to liberate from hindrances and bonds, being beyond discrimination; hence it is called 'signless'. This has already been briefly shown in the Youzan.
