From the sūtra passage stating, "At that time, this palace…" downward is the second [part], explaining that a great spirit created the inner Dharma hall. This contains three parts: first, the great spirit makes a vow; second, the fulfillment of what was vowed; and third, the devas, seeing the excellence, make vows to be reborn there. This is the first.

*Raudrabhadra* translates here as "Terrible Master" (or "Evil Master"), because he subdues terrible masters. That is, a yakṣa is similar to a deva. That which is hidden, subtle, and difficult to fathom is called a "spirit" (shen), and the most supreme among spirits is called "great." It is manifested through the Bodhisattva's sovereign power. A "single great spirit" symbolizes that untainted wisdom is capable of producing a wondrous land.
