肇曰：功不可虛設。別本云「所作不虛」，什曰：所作必成，兼以度人，故不虛也。
[Seng]zhao says: "Merit cannot be established in vain. Another recension says: 'What they undertake is not in vain.'"
[Kumāra]jīva says: "Whatever they undertake is certainly accomplished, and additionally delivers others; hence it is not in vain."
