肇曰：自捨空義，諸有所說皆非弘讚大乘之道，非弘讚大乘之道則非大悲之心。生曰：非達其根，不作小說也。夫說大者必有讚大之辭，讚大是會其本也，會本故其人可拔，能拔然後為大悲之懷耳。此則呵其闇根，以擊去彼樂小之情耳。

[Seng]zhao says: If one abandons the meaning of emptiness, whatever is expounded is not the way to propagate and praise the Mahāyāna; and if it is not the way to propagate and praise the Mahāyāna, it is not a mind of great compassion. [Dao]sheng says: Unless one penetrates their faculties, one does not deliver small teachings. When expounding the great, there must be words praising the great. Praising the great accords with their fundamental basis; because it accords with the fundamental basis, that person can be rescued. Being able to rescue them is only then the aspiration of great compassion. This rebukes his dull faculties to strike away his fondness for the small.
