什曰：末伽梨，字也。拘賖梨，是其母也。其人起見，云眾生罪垢無因無緣也。肇曰：末伽梨，字也。拘賖梨，其母名也。其人起見，謂眾生苦樂不因行得，自然耳也。

[Kumāra]jīva says: Makkhali was his personal name; Gosāla was his mother. This man gave rise to the view asserting that the defilement of transgressions of sentient beings has neither cause nor condition. [Seng]zhao says: Makkhali was his personal name; Gosāla was his mother's name. This man gave rise to the view that the suffering and pleasure of sentient beings are not obtained on account of their actions, but are simply natural.
