什曰：富樓那，秦言滿也。彌多羅尼，秦言善知識。善知識，是其母名也。其人於法師中第一善說阿毘曇論也。肇曰：富樓那，字也，秦言滿。彌多羅尼，母名也，秦言善知識。通母名為字。弟子中辨才第一也。

[Kumāra]jīva says: Pūrṇa in Qin means 'Full' [mǎn]. Maitrāyaṇī in Qin means 'Good Friend' [shànzhīshí]. 'Good Friend' is his mother's name. This person is foremost among the Dharma teachers in skillfully expounding the Abhidharma treatises. [Seng]zhao says: Pūrṇa is his style name, in Qin meaning 'Full'. Maitrāyaṇī is his mother's name, in Qin meaning 'Good Friend'. His mother's name is incorporated into his name. He is foremost in eloquence among the disciples.
