4.170

肇曰：持世菩薩時為比丘也。生曰：向教其行施，彼既從之，理應為受，然非所宜。夫施者之懷唯欲人取，故言勿以向語其施要我使受也。言沙門釋子者，明己理所不應，非苟逆人善也。

[Seng]zhao says: Bodhisattva Dharaṇīṃdhara was a bhikṣu at that time. [Dao]sheng says: He had just taught him to practice generosity. Now that the other complied, in principle he should have accepted them; yet they were not suitable. The heart of a giver only desires that the other person take it; hence he said: 'Do not, on account of what I just said regarding giving, constrain me to accept them.' By speaking of 'a śramaṇa and son of the Śākya clan,' he clarifies that according to principle it was inappropriate for him, not that he was arbitrarily rejecting another's good deed.
