生曰：因其不覺，故復可得託語，以明魔不能隱於己也，斯則力能制之矣。將欲使魔懼，有不得不與之迹。固者，非虛焉。

[Dao]sheng says: Because [Dharaṇīṃdhara] was unaware, [Vimalakīrti] could intervene with words to make clear that Māra could not hide from him; this shows his power could restrain him. In wanting to make Māra afraid, he created a situation where Māra could not but give them away. 'Stubborn' (嬈固) is not without substance.
