肇曰：以持世未覺，故發其狀也。將化諸女，故現從其索。我為白衣，應受此女。曷為以與沙門釋子乎？生曰：施本唯欲捨物，不應擇主。既能行之，便應與我，我是受此物者。

[Seng]zhao says: Because Dharaṇīṃdhara had not yet realized, he exposed [Māra's] condition. Intending to transform the maidens, he outwardly demanded them from him: 'I am a white-robed layperson; it is fitting that I accept these women. Why give them to a śramaṇa, a son of the Śākya clan?' [Dao]sheng says: Generosity fundamentally desires only to relinquish things and should not select the master. Since you can practice it, then you should give them to me, for I am one who accepts such things.
