4.232

什曰：居士以女還魔，則魔願具足，故因發願令眾生得法願具足。此是維摩詰願也。肇曰：因事興願，菩薩常法也。以女還魔，魔願具滿，故因以生願，願一切眾生得法願具足，如魔之願滿足也。

[Kumāra]jīva says: The householder returning the women to Māra fulfills Māra's vow; therefore, based on this, he produced the vow that sentient beings achieve fulfillment of their vows for the Dharma. This was Vimalakīrti's vow. [Seng]zhao says: Arising vows in response to events is the constant rule of bodhisattvas. By returning the women to Māra, Māra's vow was fully satisfied; therefore, based on this, he generated the vow, wishing that all sentient beings achieve fulfillment of their vows for the Dharma, just as Māra's vow was satisfied.
