5.168

什曰：此假法以遣我，猶人養此怒以滅彼怒也。肇曰：我想患之重者，故除我想而起法想。法想於空為病、於我為藥，昇降相靡，故假之以治也。生曰：除之為何？教起法想。起法想者，非謂著法也。

[Kumāra]jīva says: This is using dharmas temporarily to dispel the self, just like a person nurturing this anger in order to extinguish that anger. [Seng]zhao says: The conception of a self is the heavier affliction; therefore, one eliminates the conception of a self and gives rise to the conception of dharmas. The conception of dharmas is an illness with respect to emptiness, but a medicine with respect to the self. As the higher and lower wear each other away, he therefore borrows it as a remedy. [Dao]sheng says: Why eliminate it? He teaches the raising of the conception of dharmas. Raising the conception of dharmas does not mean becoming attached to dharmas.
